Gathering of the Seven Stars 七星聚会 (Qī xīng jù huì)

This is perhaps the most well known endgame composition of all time. It is also one of the most complex, if not the most complex endgame composition of all time! This masterpiece originated from several ancient manuals like the Frangrant Bamboo Manual (《竹香斋》) and A Hundred Games of Xiangqi (《百局象棋谱》)  etc. It has since been studied by generations of Xiangqi experts and players for generations and new variations keep sprouting out.
There is a short introduction by the late Charles Kliene who published a treatise on this one endgame composition alone. Unfortunately, although it was one of the earliest Xiangqi books in English, the Webmaster has not been able to find it. If anyone has a copy or knows where to find it, please share the information with the Webmaster at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
